CenterPoint Energy
CenterPoint Energy delivers electricity throughout much of the greater Houston area and portions of the surrounding Gulf Coast region.
Southern Federal Power may serve eligible CenterPoint addresses in and around communities such as Houston, Pasadena, Baytown, Sugar Land, Katy and other nearby areas. Not every address within these cities is necessarily in the CenterPoint territory.
CenterPoint owns and maintains the local poles, wires and meters. It also responds to power outages. Southern Federal Power provides the customer’s electricity plan, manages the retail account and sends the electric bill.
Oncor Electric Delivery
Oncor operates the largest electric delivery system in Texas. Its territory includes much of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and many communities across North, Central and West Texas.
Eligible customers may find Southern Federal Power plans in areas that include parts of Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Irving, Waco, Tyler, Midland, Odessa and other Oncor communities.

Texas-New Mexico Power

Lubbock Power & Light

What Is the Difference Between Southern Federal Power and the Local Utility?
Southern Federal Power is a licensed Texas Retail Electric Provider, or REP. It is not the local electric delivery utility.
Southern Federal Power is responsible for:

- Managing retail electric accounts
- Issuing bills and processing payments

The local Transmission and Distribution Utility, or TDU, is responsible for:

The same local utility continues to maintain the power lines, read the meter and restore outages. A customer in the CenterPoint territory will still contact CenterPoint about an outage. A customer in the Oncor territory will still contact Oncor.
